Friars' General Chapter
The Friars of the Atonement begin their General Chapter in Wappingers Falls, New York, on Pentecost night. The Chapter is the coming together of the friar delegates every five years. During their coming together the Friars discuss and assess the way of life and ministry of the community. The second task of the Chapter is to elect a Minister General and General Council to serve the community. Father Bill Schmidt and Father Donald Howard will be participating in this convocation. Your prayers for an outpouring of the Spirit on this gathering of Friars would be appreciated.

SPANISH CHOIR – The Spanish CORO practice is here at church on Wednesday, June 17, at 7:30 pm in the music room.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS & ADULTS – The Sunday Evening Choir will meet for their usual rehearsal on Thursday, the 18th, at 7:30 pm. The Adults who meet with Diane will not meet this week because of the concert dress rehearsal.
All of our choirs are always seeking and welcoming new members. Music was -- and still is -- God’s idea. It is a grand design for us to be able to express ourselves beyond the limitations of words alone!

SOME 40th Anniversary Inaugural Concert
Please join SOME (So Others Might Eat) as it commemorates 40 years of service to the homeless and poor in Washington, DC, with a special benefit concert at the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine on Wednesday, July 1, at 7:30 pm. The renowned Georgetown Chorale will lead a choir of 100 voices in a performance of Henry Mollicone’s moving Beatitude Mass (for the homeless) and selections from Les Misérables.
Weaving interviews with homeless women and men into pieces of Masses, the moving words and music of the Beatitude Mass convey the struggles and hopes of the homeless women and men that inspired composer Henry Mollicone’s dramatic piece. Mr. Mollicone apprenticed under Leonard Bernstein and has been lauded by The Washington Post as “one of the most distinctive American opera composers.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and students and are available at this Georgetown Chorale website. Concert proceeds will help SOME to continue to feed, clothe and serve the most vulnerable members of our community in these most difficult economic times. Learn more about SOME at SOME.org.

The Nursery Co-Op Needs You!!!
Do you have children between the ages of 1 to 5 years of age and attend the 10:30 am mass? The co-op is presently recruiting families to join its nursery as older children “graduate” to attend mass with their family. Joining the co-op nursery enables you and your spouse to fully participate in the mass while your child is being watched by other parents in the co-op. Commitment to the co-op involves watching the children in the nursery for one mass during each rotation plus attending Virtus training. We invite you to stop by the nursery during the 10:30 am mass to check us out and learn more. A minimum of 8 families are needed in order to make it worthwhile for those involved. For more information or to join, please contact Lizette Andreyko at 703-404-9428 or by email.

Donations Needed by Arlington Diocese
The Arlington Diocese Office of Migration and Refugee Services (see this website) works in our Diocese to help "Welcome the Stranger" (documented refugees and asylees). Due to high numbers of refugee arrivals over the past couple of months, the office desperately needs donations of beds/boxsprings/bed frames, sheet sets, sofas, dining room tables and chairs, lamps, trash cans, cribs/toddler beds, baby diapers and formula and pots & pans. All items must be in good condition or working order. If you would like to donate any of these items to help refugees arriving in our area, please call Kira at MRS at 703-841-3870 or e-mail her to schedule a pick-up. Thank you!
Donate Your Aluminum Cans
Did you know that you can help out burn victims by simply delivering your empty aluminum cans to your local Fairfax County Fire Department (with the exception of the Herndon FD)? Your donations will go to support the Washington Regional Fire & Rescue Departments Aluminum Cans for Burned Children. Their mission is to prevent burns and improve the quality of life for young burn survivors and their families by providing funding for research, annual therapeutic residential burn camps, and other year round activities that support their physical, psychological, and social needs. The cost for the care of a burn victim can be compared to the cost of a day at a luxury resort. Please help these families with the donation of your aluminum cans.
