Welcome to new members! Please review the information on this page carefully as it explains some rules and procedures.
First, we would like to emphasize that this is not a “performance group.” Our mission is to enhance the liturgy through the sung word. All members should feel as if they are sharing their gift with the congregation, not performing in a concert. This is the reason that applause is discouraged; tell the children individually how much you appreciate their dedication.
Rehearsals will begin promptly at 5:30 pm on Mondays in the Music Room. You will enter through the hallway from the South parking lot where your child enters for Religious Education classes. All choir members should be in their seats, ready to sing on time because attendance will be taken at the beginning of each session.
Our practice ends at 6:30 pm, at which time you may come into the music room and personally pick up your child. Please do not ask your child to meet you outside the room or at the exterior doors of the church; these are Diocesan rules for your child's protection.
At our first rehearsal, your child will receive a list of scheduled Masses at which we will sing. If music is given out to be taken home, this music is meant to be brought back to subsequent rehearsals. It is important that your child come to most, if not all, of the rehearsals as we will immediately start working on selections for the St. Cecilia Celebration in November and the ensuing Advent and Christmas seasons. Your child will feel comfortable with more practice, not less.
We sincerely hope that your child is enriched by their participation in this ministry and that they will look forward to rehearsals and singing at Mass. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Claire Caruso 703-430-0811, extension 123; or Tim Paquin, extension 130.
